The 16th Annual Thunder on Cocoa Beach, produced by Powerboat P1 and Space Coast Super Boat and sponsored by KelTec and Visit Space Coast, takes place May 15-18 and promises exhilarating powerboat racing off the Atlantic Coast of Florida. Net proceeds raised from this year’s event benefit I Am a Freedom Fighter, a non-profit that empowers organizations that prevent, identify, rehabilitate, and support survivors of human trafficking by raising money for them and providing training for the community.
The weekend begins with a High-Octane Kickoff Party on Thursday. On Friday, race fans can enjoy a parade down A1A and a Downtown Block Party showcasing plenty of powerboats on display, food, drinks, and live music. High-speed racing will take place on Saturday and Sunday, with more than 60 race teams competing for the checkered flag and the Class 1 boats reaching speeds of up to 160 mph. The best viewing area is between Shepard Park, Lori Wilso Park, and Coconuts on the Beach. Throughout the weekend, race teams from around the world will be on display in the Port Canaveral parking lot, which is open and free to the public.
This year, the Hospitality team has reimagined the VIP experience at the Start/Finish Line in Lori Wilson Park as the hottest beach party on the East Coast. The Waves, Bites & Boats Beach Party will feature a food hall on the beach, showcasing top vendors from Central Florida, ready to serve foodies and race enthusiasts. Your VIP Ticket grants you exclusive access to the VIP Tent on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The experience includes upgraded amenities for guests, a live stream of all the race action, expanded seating options, and access to the food hall tent for dining and beverage selections, offering a cashless experience that makes purchasing on the beach effortless. Corporate hospitality tents will also be available. “We're looking to have even more fun during Thunder on Cocoa Beach," said Hospitality Director Christy Masters. "Our VIPs will experience high-speed thrills and epic eats at Waves, Bites & Boats—VIP views, world-class powerboats, and a foodie adventure like no other."
Thunder on Cocoa Beach remains one of the most significant events on the Space Coast, with the Economic Development Council of Brevard County, FL, estimating 100,000 in attendance over the Four-day event held in May 2024. “Our race site has grown significantly over the years, making Cocoa Beach a premier race site on the schedule and a destination event for both race teams and race fans,” said Race Chairman Kerry Bartlet.
