Powerboat P1, the international marine motorsport promoter, has released plans for the launch of an innovative race series in 2025 featuring venues in Louisiana, Wisconsin and Florida. The P1 Offshore Triple Crown will see teams in the top five classes compete in two races in New Orleans, Sheboygan and St. Petersburg with a special prize fund on offer for the champions in each class over the six races.

Governed by the APBA, the P1 series will welcome back New Orleans to the offshore race calendar to kick off the challenge in June. Announcing the new concept from his office in Tampa, Thomas Covington, head of P1 Offshore USA, explained: “With the support of leading venues, sponsors and partners, the Triple Crown will showcase the very best in offshore racing, together with P1 AquaX jet ski action as part of its own national championship, to create an outstanding show for fans and visitors. All three rounds will be broadcast live on MAVTV and our P1 live streaming platforms, with FanDuel Sports Network and leading international sports channels broadcasting post-event coverage.”

A partner for the New Orleans event will be Harvey Gulf International Marine, a marine transportation company that specializes in providing support vessels for deepwater operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and abroad, and its CEO Shane Guidry commented: “I am very excited to bring back powerboat racing to Jefferson Parish, the Greater New Orleans Metro area and the State of Louisiana. This event will be another economic engine for the local and state economy while providing a safe, fun and enjoyable tourist destination for families. It has been too long since we hosted an event of this type in our area and I am looking forward to participating and keeping it here for years to come.” The race location will be Lake Pontchartrain, an estuary in southeastern Louisiana connected to the Gulf of Mexico.

The second Triple Crown venue in August will be Sheboygan on Lake Michigan, and St. Petersburg on Florida’s Gulf Coast will host the final event in early September at a new location at Albert Whitted Park, next to the local airport at the southern tip of the downtown waterfront. Sheboygan Mayor Ryan Sorenson said, "We will be thrilled to welcome back the Powerboat P1 Midwest Challenge to the beautiful shores of Sheboygan, the Malibu of the Midwest, for the third year in a row. This event has become a highlight of our summer, showcasing our city’s dynamic waterfront and bringing together residents and visitors for an unforgettable ride. We are looking forward to another fantastic year of racing, connection, and celebration as part of the P1 Offshore Triple Crown."

P1 AquaX racing will provide a double bill of marine motorsport action at both New Orleans and St. Petersburg, and P1 USA’s Director of Operations Michelle Petro said: “Combining the two race series will add another layer of sporting entertainment and excitement, and it will introduce our AquaX racing to a wider audience.”

Covington added: “Over the coming months we will be unveiling further details of event sponsors and partners, prize money and race schedules. Through the P1 Marine Foundation, proceeds from the P1 Offshore Triple Crown will directly support local non-profits dedicated to marine conservation, water safety and educational programs for youth in the three race locations. The Foundation is committed to fostering sustainable practices and protecting the health of our oceans and waterways. By collaborating with local conservation initiatives, we aim to have a positive impact in each community while raising awareness of the importance of preserving marine ecosystems for future generations.”

In addition to the Triple Crown, P1 will promote the Thunder on Cocoa Beach 2025 event on the weekend of May 16-18.
