The OPA World Finals in Englewood, FL, continued on Sunday as six Super Stock competitors faced off, along with Mod Vee and Class 2 teams.
Saturday’s Super Stock winners, Reese Langheim and Julian Maldonado in Jackhammer, had to settle for second place on Sunday, as Brent Holbrook and throttleman Todd Defilipps in Wicked (which had finished fourth yesterday) led most of the race and took the checkered flag. Phase 5, with Al Penta and Jay Muller, was in second place for most of the race, but broke down right before the finish. That left Cape Haze Marine to grab third place and FJ Propeller, fourth place. The World Champion in the class will be named later tonight, but smart bets were on Jackhammer.
Team Woody (Class 2) and Sun Print (Modified Vee)—both of which had won their classes on Saturday—both finished first on Sunday when their lone competitors broke down. Strictly Business (with Louis Giancontieri and Johnny Stanch) in Class 2 and Sheriff Lobo (with Morgan Honnock and Shameel Mohammed) in Modified Vee went out early in the race. Congratulations to Billy Shipley and Chad Woody of Team Woody and Steve Fehrmann and Steve Miklos of Sun Print, all of whom were essentially guaranteed to take home a World Championship.
One race remains for this event, which will feature Unlimited, Factory Stock, Vee Extreme and Class 1 competitors.
