Hot off a first place finish at Race World Offshore's inaugural 7-Mile Offshore Grand Prix race of the season in Marathon, FL last month, Factory 450 Stock Class Team TS Motorsports / Marine Technology will be without their world champion driver, Taylor Scism at the 2023 P1 Offshore's Thunder on Cocoa Beach race for the first time in their three years of competition.
Scism, who is the Director of Client Relations for Marine Technology Inc. / MTI Boats, will be in Lake of the Ozarks, MO to oversee the company's 25th Anniversary weekend. MTI owners have been invited to celebrate their milestone in producing some of the hottest performance boats in the industry with the Scisms, featuring their popular catamarans and luxury center console lines.
Filling in for the absent Scism and joining legendary throttleman John Tomlinson in the cockpit in Cocoa Beach, will be Team Crew Chief, Milton Calafell––who is no stranger to the boat or racing competition.
"I've raced before against Randy (Scism) and Bob Bull in the Unlimited Class and with John Arruda (owner of Turbine Marine Inc.) in the turbine-powered boat. I also test the outboard boat a lot with Johnny," said Calafell.
The class has seen tremendous growth since its first season in 2021, when Scism and Tomlinson ran unopposed. This weekend's competition in Cocoa Beach will host a total of six teams, with fellow MTI competitors Team GC Racing, 151 Express, and three Doug Wright teams––Team Doug Wright, Gladiator Canados, and Hank's Saloon.
The Factory 450 Stock Class is scheduled to run as the fourth and final race of Sunday's competition, starting at 2:30 p.m. EST, with the livestream on P1 Offshore's Facebook page.
