The 7th Annual Texas Outlaw Challenge poker run and shootout event enjoyed four days of spectacular weather on Clear Lake, drawing 180 boats and more than 1,000 registered attendees, according to event organizer Paul Robinson.

Gary Smith, owner of the Predator Skater and current holder of the “King of the Desert” title for this year’s Desert Storm in Lake Havasu, took top honors at the Texas shootout. Among the other heavy hitters at this year’s event was Dan Lightfoot, owner of a new 5200 Nor-Tech Roadster, as well as some 40 boats new to the Texas Outlaw Challenge. Photographers in two helicopters recorded the action, which will be featured in an upcoming issue of Speedboat Magazine.

Robinson, who created the run seven years ago, said the event’s history has altruistic roots. “It was developed from an interest to have some charity involved in my life,” he says. “I didn’t have the hour by hour commitment or responsibilities, so I decided to develop this event and asked my boating friends to participate in it.” In 2013, the Shootout raised over $1 million.

The Texas locale makes this a real “East Meets West” bash, with Eliminators and DCBs mingling with Skates, MTIs and Outerlimits, and virtually everthing in between—quad-outboard center-console rockets, runabouts, and more than a few Nor-Techs.
