World Champion offshore throttleman Steve Curtis—known for piloting Class One boats like Miss Geico and Huski Wear—will fill in for Monster Energy/M•CON owner/throttleman Tyler Miller in Cocoa Beach, Speedboat has learned.
“Tyler’s got a bad back,” said Curtis, who is currently attending the 2024 Venice E1 boat race, part of the UIM E1 World Championship. He confirmed that he will throttle the boat with Miller's usual driver, Myrick Coil. "I guess I'll do some testing prior to the race, but I think Tyler has everything set up very well, so it should be pretty good," Curtis said. "I know they did a lot of work on it over the winter. And obviously Myrick knows it really well."
Curtis praised the team and said he's eager to get back on the course. "It's a great team—I'm thrilled to be back and giving it a run. It's better than sitting on the shore!" he laughed. "Hopefully we can get it up to speed real fast. I love racing."
He told Speedboat that he currently has no plans to race in the 2024 season as part of a permanent team, but said he has discussions about racing next season. "Any opportunity to have a good old 'rev up,' as it were, I'll jump at."
