For the second straight year, the fourth annual 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run has been canceled because of health concerns tied to Covid-19.
The run, scheduled for July 15-18, benefits the Make-a-Wish Foundation and River Hospital, and unfolds in the community of Clayton, NY. Traditionally, the event begins with a welcoming Street Party on Thursday, which is July 15 of this year.
The event takes place close to Canada, where travel restrictions along the U.S. border—along with state guidelines—make staging the poker run problematic. A bulletin from the event’s board of directors states: “Due to both obstacles, we do not feel we can overcome to have a safe and successful event. A good portion of the run itself takes place in Canadian waters, which is now prohibited during our event, unfortunately. This was a very difficult decision to make, and we are already looking forward to next year and bringing everyone back from all over to gather together and enjoy the beautiful river and 1000 Islands!”
Those who had transferred their registrations or sponsorships over from 2020 to 2021 will automatically be transferred to 2022. Next year’s event is scheduled for July 14-16, 2022.
