OPA Racing and Powerboat P1 have added a fifth venue to their American Power Boat Association (APBA) Offshore Championship in 2019.
The Great Lakes Grand Prix in Michigan City, IN—which has been organized by John Carbonell’s Super Boat International (SBI) for the last 10 years—will count as the fifth round in next year’s APBA Championship.
Rick Wright, the coordinator of the Great Lakes Grand Prix for the LaPorte County (Indiana) Convention & Visitors Bureau, said, “There are just 35,000 people in Michigan City, so the people are coming from all over to enjoy this event for the weekend. The people come here to watch the races and the racers are treated like rock stars. We have spent a lot of time and effort building this race. So it was a pleasure being asked to be part of this series.”
An additional stop in the series is expected to be announced very soon.
