The second of four races on this second day of Race World Offshore’s World Championships in Key West once again saw four classes in competition: Stock 450, Stock Vee, Modified Vee and Bracket Class 2. Halfway through the race, Stock Vee competitor The Firm flipped at the same hairpin turn 3 that caused Super Stock class competitors Shaun Torrente and Eric Belisle to roll over on Wednesday. The flip led to a red flag, stopping the action for about 15 minutes before a restart.

In Stock Vee, Relentless/Punisher had been in the lead before The Firm crashed, and managed to reclaim its lead following the restart. However, Brit Lilly and Kevin Smith stole the lead away from them toward the end of the race in their LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness entry, giving them their second straight win of the week. Relentless finished in second place, followed by Shocker and R&S Racing. The Firm was in danger of sinking after its crash, but rescue workers were able to prevent that and the boat was successfully towed in.

In Modified Vee, it was Brian Forehand and Vinnie Diorio in Marker 17 Marine taking the win, a major turnaround from Wednesday’s race, which saw them breaking down. They were followed by Visit St. Pete in second place, with Wednesday’s class winners, Steve and Stephen Kildahl in Boatfloater.com, coming in third. Boatfloater is the only Mod Vee team so far to have double podium finishes. Sheriff Lobo finished fourth.

In Bracket 2 class, WeOnTop took the unofficial win, with Team Woody in second place. Wix Filters, Wednesday’s big winner, suffered an engine or drive failure, and did not finish the race.

Taylor Scism and Johnny Tomlinson ran unopposed in their Marine Technology entry, giving them the win in Stock 450 Class.
