The OPA World Finals in Englewood, FL, continued on Sunday, with bracket classes 4 and 5 comprising Race 3, and Stock Vee in Race 4.
Class 4, which Saris had won yesterday, saw Matt Soper in Old School taking the checkered flag. Saris Racing, with Johnny and Jason Saris, finished second and Control Freak in third. The World Champion will be announced later, but Saris seemed a good bet to take the trophy.
Meanwhile, Shoreline Plumbing repeated its Saturday win in Class 5 today, with Brent Appiarius and Eddie Simmons virtually guaranteed to take the World Championship. Sabrina Phantom and Mean Streak finished second and third, respectively.
Next up, Stock Vee competitors faced off in the day’s fourth race of 10 laps. Brit Lilly and Jay Muller in LSB Hurricane of Awesomeness/Rev-X Oil took an early lead and held onto it to repeat their Saturday win in the class. (They now have an accumulated five straight wins in offshore.) Their boat was followed by Wazzup, Speed Marine, You Gun Learn and Good Boy Vodka. Relentless and Shocker both spun out during the race, but recovered to finish it.
Two more races remain in Sunday’s World Finals.
