As manufacturers head to South Florida for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Fountain Powerboats of Washington, NC, is planning to re-introduce its 38SCX, which has undergone a complete makeover, according to the company.
The 38SCX—Fountain’s runaway best-selling center console—has undergone a complete styling makeover for 2023. The new boat features a high-tech helm, luxurious cockpit seating, an upgraded sound system, an enlarged overnight cabin, an extended contoured T-Top, an innovative glass windshield, best-in-class storage, and all-new graphics.
Available with Mercury engine combinations ranging from triple 300s to quad 450Rs, Fountain’s performance edge just got more stylish. "You won’t find a V-bottom center console in this size range that compares when it comes to top-end, handling, ride comfort, and, most importantly, excitement behind the wheel," company reps told Speedboat in a statement released on Monday. Fountain President Jeff Harris will be attending FLIBS.
The SCX’s next-generation contoured T-Top extends over the second row of bolsters and features a protective three-piece ventilated glass windshield. Fiberglass aft supports meet at the gunwales, creating wider interior walkways and a much bigger feel inside. Twin overhead lockers and a dash glovebox keep miscellaneous storage items within arm’s reach. The boat includes standard premium six-color upholstery. Color-coordinated Marine Mat on the cockpit sole, gunwales, and T-Top add to the look, making it easy to keep clean and durable. A triple-wide stand-up/sit down helm bolster is part of the SCX interior package. A standard rear-facing seat is engineered with an integrated backrest cooler with and twin pull-out storage drawers underneath.
Meanwhile, an optional second-row bolster is perfect for serious high performance boaters. Fountain has added two subwoofers to the sound system, replacing the standard aft-facing seat. Upfront, new wraparound U-shaped bow seats invite stretching out to work on your tan with forward facing back rests and a small entertainment center. A new powered high-low table is perfect for entertaining and is accented with an embossed 38SCX logo. The restyled forward chaise lounge is wide enough for two and has supersized insulted storage underneath. Aft, an elegantly redesigned full-width bench features an insulated storage/ice chest with a padded armrest, drink holders, and USB ports.
Sacrificing no creature comforts, inverter-powered air conditioning is standard in both the cockpit and cabin. An optional 5KW Panda generator provides around-the-clock comfort on steamy summer nights. To help set the night aglow, computer controlled cockpit and underwater Shadowcaster lighting is standard. The new 38SCX also features sure-footed boarding and debarking transom steps.
Innovative new port and starboard gunwale hinged compartments combine with traditional storage space under all the seats including the bow, chaise lounge and full-width aft bench. Seven in-floor lockers mean nothing gets left behind. Add it all up and among high-performance center consoles in this size range, the 38SCX rates best-in-class in storage space.
Inside the helm, the all new oversized cabin includes a couch that converts to a full-size sleeper. A large tinted window emits light and creates a spacious feel. Solid surface countertops, a pull-out sink shower, and access to the onboard master electrical panel are all standard. The cabin door also features an ingenious pantograph hinge for wide open passage belowdecks.
Buyers can choose from a pallet of 18 solid color hull side gel and paint colors, or select from six head-turning graphic packages. Additionally, boaters can go completely wild and custom design graphics. In addition to the standard features, key options worth considering include a Night Vision Camera, Bow Thruster, SeaKeeper, an aft Sureshade and forward Sail Shades.
Fountain is part of Iconic Marine Group, which also owns the Donzi and Baja brands.
