After 22 years of unmistakable branding, Lucas Oil and offshore racing veteran, Nigel Hook, have concluded their long-running partnership for the offshore race campaign. This news comes just as the 2022 Race World Offshore World Championships are about to commence this week. Their 52' Mystic cat race boat will now be emblazoned with the Ocean Cup logo––the endurance offshore racing series organized by Hook and partner Janet Wilson, that most recently ran in Huntington Beach, CA in late September.
“There are mixed emotions seeing a new livery on the boat because I am tremendously grateful to Lucas Oil. It has been incredible to promote a product which evokes a universal positive response” says Hook, Captain of the 77 SilverHook Team. “I would like to thank Forrest, Charlotte, Morgan, Katie and indeed, the whole organization, for such a great relationship and for their contributions to our joint successes."
For over two decades, the partnership represented Lucas Oil, proudly displaying the livery––white on mostly solid red boats. The fleet included a 43’ Scarab, 37’ Scarab, 40’ Skater, two separate 39’ Outerlimits (one red, one black), 43’ Outerlimits, 41’ Vector, 48’ SilverHook and most recently the 52’ Mystic catamaran. The teams have been awarded multiple offshore National Championships, two World Championships in Super V class, six UIM World Speed Records, including a Guinness World Record from Key West, FL to Havana, Cuba.
The #A77 Ocean Cup Mystic competitor, throttled by Hook and driven by longtime co-pilot, Jay Johnson will compete in the Extreme class with the first race scheduled to start this Wednesday, November 9 at 12:30 p.m. EST. The livestream broadcast will be available on Race World Offshore's Facebook page.
