Members of the 1000 Islands Charity Poker Run committee donated $102,000 to Make-A-Wish Central New York on Sunday.
The donation is reflective of the monies raised during the July 14-16 edition of the Poker Run, headquartered at the Harbor Hotel.
“The 1000 Island Charity Poker Run has been honored to partner with Make-A-Wish Central New York for the past 6 years,” said Bobby Cantwell, chair of the Poker Run committee. If granting a wish to a young person provides them with the strength to fight and often times overcome a critical illness … we’re in 110%.”
He continued: “This record-breaking donation represents the hard work of dozens of volunteers and many local businesses in Clayton, NY. But most importantly, it reflects the generosity of more than 100 boaters from across the country, and the support of numerous area sponsors who helped to facilitate this gift.”
Diane Kuppermann, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Central New York, said, ”Every aspect of this event is simply magical. From the boat rides given to our wish kids on Saturday, to the support of the Harbor Hotel, area businesses and sponsors, all striving to impact the critically ill kids we serve, we are forever grateful. Being on hand at the banquet to hear Wish alums Nick and Katie Nortz speak, and to witness Natalie Gondek‘s excitement upon seeing her camper wish come true, was a moment few will ever forget. We are incredibly thankful to the committee and to everyone involved for the impact this gift will have on our mission in the coming year.”
