For the second consecutive year, Tennessee's Norris Lake will host the Rocky Top Power Run, set for Aug. 7-9. The three-day fun run comprises 10 marina stops—five of which are required—and a party atmosphere along this scenic waterway. The secondary five stops will essentially give participants an additional hand of cards if they wish.
"We're a triple threat lake," says Power Run organizer Matt Rogers of Rogers Bros. Detailing of LaFollette, TN. "We'll get everything from 19' bass boats and wakeboard boats on up to muscleboats like Skaters," he says. "You'll see Sunsations, MTIs, Sunsations, and 50' Midnight Express models here." Along with Rogers, Chad Montgomery of Fast Quotes For Fast Boats and realtor Zoe Ferrell put together this unique run.
With headquarters at Flat Hollow Marina & Resort in Speedwell, TN, this year's event kicks off on Thursday, with an elaborate Street Party. The 150-mile two-day poker run will follow on Friday from Flat Hollow Marina, which includes a lunch stop at Boathouse at 33 (previously Bubba Brew's). During the various stops, participants enjoy the scenic mountain views on clear, emerald green waters. On Saturday, a tie-up is planned with plenty of music, and boaters can also complete their stops as well. Registration will close on Saturday to accommodate any potential latecomers.
The Rocky Top Power Run strives to make a positive impact not merely on the local community, but on a national scale as well, according to Rogers. "We don't do this for profit, but to raise money for charity," he says. "Our efforts benefit the Good Boy Foundation, which is dedicated to helping both humans and animals in need both in local communities and across the nation. Also, Care Camps Foundation is a truly awesome organization that sends kids with cancer to specialized camps to give them special experiences outside of the hospital. It's a real morale booster that provides them with a sense of normalcy and exponentially helps with the care they're being given." Jamie Rademacher, the wife of Flat Hollow Marina owner Chris Rademacher, is on the board of Care Camps Foundation and is spearheading the charity part of the event.
In addition, sponsor Good Boy Vodka will be involved in raising money for the local Campbell County Animal Shelter, with an adoption event currently in the works. "We have animals running around loose in the streets around here," Rogers says. "In the last four years that I've lived here, I've taken in multiple dogs—the shelter sometimes doesn't have enough space for them. So they always need the funding."
Rogers' friend Dustin Boes, a frequent attendee of the Lake Cumberlands Poker Run, has been helping to organize Rocky Top as well. "He's in my corner and has helped me out organizing this year, to make sure it goes off without a hitch," Rogers says.
