Following the destruction in Florida brought by hurricanes Helene and Milton, Utah-based XINSURANCE has launched an initiative, “XINSURANCE Cares,” to help support those affected by the devastating storms. The firm's response is set to protect the victims financially and to aid in rebuilding.

Tapping into the generosity and compassion of its vast network, XINSURANCE—working with Mixed Martial Arts fighter Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and other supporters—plans to match donations up to $100,000 to help communities heal, with XINSURANCE and Cerrone directly distributing funds to people who need it most desperately during the recovery. XINSURANCE is calling on businesses and individuals to contribute to the relief effort, saying every donation, regardless of the size, will positively impact those left in the wake of Helene and Milton.

“We’re not just about insurance," said a spokesperson from XINSURANCE. "We’re about standing with our communities in their times of need. With every donation, we get closer to helping these communities heal and rebuild.”

XINSURANCE founder Rick Lindsey and his team took a proactive approach to the crisis by flying his company helicopter to the areas in Florida hit hardest by the storms, to survey the devastation firsthand and do what they could do help. Lindsey, who has been part of the insurance world for many years, has seen Florida hammered hard by numerous hurricanes—including Katrina, a cyclone that caused 1,392 fatalities and damages estimated at $125 billion in late August 2005.

"I learned a lot in the wake of Katrina because I insured a lot of properties down there," he told Speedboat. "And so, since then, I have been trying to change the industry so that homeowner's insurance includes flood and wind and beyond. We insure the Margaritaville Beach Resort, a brand-new hotel in Fort Myers, and that's what we give them. There's no deductible. Basically, we cover whatever happens and every percentage is customized. They took 20 percent, I pay 80 percent. When you cover everything, you don't hire a TPA (third party administrator). You don't wait for a report. You just go start paying bills. And that's the way insurance should be."

Lindsey says that several XINSURANCE employees live in the Sarasota area, as well as Randy Kent of the XINSURANCE offshore race team. "I insure his home, so we went down there to see all of them and then help out other people too."

XINSURANCE's outreach and compassion is typified by field insurance underwriter Nicholas Weppner of Sarasota, who drove his 1985 M923 military truck to nearby Siesta Key following Hurricane Milton to help those in need. Weppner brought out a ladder to help flood victims evacuate the island, telling USA TODAY that he was glad to help out strangers. That's what makes America great, he said—ordinary people helping each other in times of need. "Not everybody has the equipment to do this kind of thing," he told the newspaper. "If you can help people out, you do it."
